Frontier research of a novel probe using material / electromagnetic wave carrying angular orbital momentum

Project Gist

How can we understand the interaction between material wave carrying angular orbital momentum and electromagnetic field?

Keywords

Free electrons with orbital angular momentum

Background, Purpose, and Project Achievements

Recently, a new beam “vortex electron beam”, which carrying orbital angular momentum (AOM) is experimentally observed. Various applications are expected such as for an optical beam carrying AOM. However, real application is not demonstrated yet, because understanding of interaction between “vortex electron beam” and electromagnetic field is inadequate. In this project, we successfully developed a new experimental technique to survey the interaction between material wave and electromagnetic field, which can be applied to research the interaction between material wave with AOM and electromagnetic field.

Future Prospects

We want to apply the new technique on treatment of material wave using electromagnetic field to the experimental survey on the fundamental research on material wave carrying AOM and contribute to the establishment of a “trans-border knowledge base”.
