Keywords

Background, Purpose, and Project Achievements

In this project, we propose a Cognitive dysfunction Survey of Moyamoya disease in Japanese institute. In addition, we aim to the difference of the patients’ characteristics, symptoms, treatment and cognitive dysfunction in moyamoya disease among three Asian countries. We applied the protocol of COSMO study (Cognitive dysfunction Survey of Moyamoya) to the ethical committee of Kyoto University graduate school of medicine. In addition, we contact with the neurosurgeons who treat with moyamoya disease in Taiwan, Korea and Singapore. We analyzed the characteristics of the patients in these countries,

Future Prospects

Preliminary assessment of the patients in Kyoto University indicates that the patients without social independence show disturbance in intelligence (WAIS-Ⅲ), memory (WMS-R) and frontal lobe functions. Among them, working memory assessed by WMS-R and Frontal lobe functions assessed by Trail Making Test B and Theory of Mind (Eyes) show significant contribution to the differences with or without social independence. As for Asian analysis, the data obtained in this study was disclosed in Stroke 2015 which is held in Mar. 2015.

・Moyamoya disease is a cerebrovascular disorder and common in east Asian peoples. The characteristics of this disease are stenosis of the terminal portion of internal carotid artery and moyamoya vessels in basal ganglia. Moyamoya disease is one of the main cause of juvenile stroke. Our department (Dept. of Neurosurgery, Kyoto University) treats a large number of the patients with moyamoya disease and is one of the top center of Japan against moyamoya disease. We try to overcome this disease every day.
