Keywords
applied philosophy, applied ethics, contemporary philosophy of East Asia, professional ethics
Background, Purpose, and Project Achievements
Applied philosophy is a field we propose in which philosophy gets out of academic world and struggles with various contemporary problems in the society, including existing fields like bioethics but going beyond that. Our project aims at enhancing cooperation among various fields in applied philosophy and also among researchers in those fields in East Asia, forming an international research network centering around the Center for Applied Philosophy and Ethics, Kyoto University.
Future Prospects
First of all, we publish the result of our collaborative research in a special issue of Contemporary and Applied Philosophy (journal of Japan Association for Contemporary and Applied Philosophy) on contemporary philosophy in East Asia. Second, we foster our research community by regularizing the Conference of Contemporary Philosophy in East Asia. Finally, we start a new journal on applied philosophy hosted by Center for Applied Philosophy and Ethics, Kyoto University, serving as the platform for future international research collaborations.
