Challenge to the unreached domain of the scholarly information infrastructure on upper atmospheric research as testbed

Project Gist

To consider the scholarly information infrastructure which collateralized reproducibility.

Keywords

Data-intensive Science, Open Science, Big Data, Upper Atmospheric Research, scholarly information

Background, Purpose, and Project Achievements

The first scientific journal was published in 1665 by the Royal Society of London. The style described by natural language, figures, tables, and equations is not changed up to now. In recent years, scientific papers keep increasing. However, the connection between paper and data as evidence is insufficient, and mass production of the paper by which reproducibility isn’t collateralized is a problem.

We suggested the scholarly information infrastructure which collateralized reproducibility on upper atmospheric research field. We are going to the realization.

Future Prospects

The small research seed was born in Kyoto University. It grew up big by 2 year SPIRITS’s support. This research is continued to achieve the goal in the national research institute which this research leader moves.

・After I received D. Sc. by the study of condensed matter theory, I tackled to build the research environment for energy science, radio astronomy, and upper atmosphere physics. Currently, I have been studying new infrastructure for scholarly communication which is consist of literature, intermediate data, published data, metadata, source code, identifier, and so forth, by dealing with upper atmosphere physics as a test bed.
