Challenges and opportunities in the fields of heritage preservation and creative tourism development in the popular living heritage sites in Asia.

We aim to examine factors, opportunities and initiatives concerning sustainable heritage preservation and the ‘creative development’ of popular historic towns and villages which are in a stage of advanced heritage commoditization. We would like participants to present their work in the field of heritage preservation and tourism development in order to determine the most sustainable preservation and development approaches, as well as to brainstorm ideas regarding sustainable creative tourism development in the popular living heritage sites

The detailed plan will be developed during the autumn months after we receive the applications. As a potential program:

Part 1 – up to 2.5 hours:

1. Keynotes speaker’s presentation in the field of heritage preservation in the living heritage sites (up to 30 min);

2. Panel 1 will discuss challenges and opportunities in sustainable vernacular heritage preservation in the living heritage sites (up to 4 presentations of 20 min each, then discussion and questions for about 40 min)

Part 2 – up to 2.5 hours

3. Keynotes speaker’s presentation in the field of heritage tourism development (up to 30 min);

4. Panel 2 will discuss challenges and opportunities in sustainable heritage tourism development, with an emphasis on ‘creative development’ (up to 4 presentations of 20 min each, then discussion and questions for about 40 min)

Part 3: Will be dedicated to a few presentations in other fields, such as anthropology, and will take up to 1 hour.
