Resilient community buildings to mitigate disasters by gusty wind, “Hira Oroshi”, based on its numerical forecasting and comprehensive communication systems

Project Gist

Resilient community buildings to mitigate disasters by gusty wind

Keywords

Resilient community, Transdisciplinary Research, Society implementation

Background and Purpose

The strong down-stream wind, “Hira-Oroshi appearing in the west coast of Lake Biwa effects on the urban human activity, mainly because the commuter train frequently delays due to the strong wind. The maximum instantaneous wind reaches as large as 50 m/s. The strong wind sometimes causes the severe traffic accident or the damage of buildings.

Unfortunately, the prediction score of “Hira Oroshi” is very poor and as small as <30 % in the conventional method. The disaster mitigation activity is not developed and organized. The comprehensive disaster prevention activity should be develop to make a resilient community in the disastrous area.

Project Achievements

This project aims at the implementation of strong and resilient community in “Hira Oroshi” region. The understanding among various stakeholders such as the local government, its citizens and interdisciplinary researchers is critically important. Based on the society-government-academia collaboration, in this project, we found the project manager in the local society is critically important for the smooth implementation of science result. This research found that one new case method to apply the newest scientific achievement.

Future Prospects

Interactive policymaking and research activity become more important in the near future. The coordinator-oriented solution scheme will be improved to solve the various social problems smoothly. This new research orientated to becomes the good test-bed of the society 5.0.
