This research investigates the relationship between Switzerland and the Empire of Japan during the “Long Second World War” (1931-1945). Using primary sources from archives in Switzerland, Japan, the UK, and the United States, the project investigates issues of diplomacy, foreign policy, and economics, the project pais particular attention to Switzerland’s neutrality policy which will serve as the narrative framework to understand the actions of Berne toward Tokyo. What did Swiss Diplomats do in Japan during the war years? What did the business sector do? What did Japanese citizens do in Switzerland while their home country was getting deeper and deeper involved in the war?

This book introduces a related reserach topic that I already finished. For anyone interested in the relationship between neutral states and Japan during WWII, this is a good start.

A fantastic work to understand what the Second World War was like as a foreigner in Japan.
