Revealing Fundamental Mysteries of Particle Physics and Universe by using Atom and Molecules

Background and Purpose
The goal of the particle physics is to clarify the evolution of the universe based on the unified theory of matters and forces. The aim of this SPIRITS project is to study mysteries in particle physics such as the smallness of neutrino mass and the origin of matters in our universe using the methods developed by atomic and molecular sciences.
Project Achievements
We have regularly held an interdisciplinary study group and built a broad network among young researches in Kansai area. We have organized multidisciplinary symposia between particle physics and chemistry in cooperation with Mie University and Ryukyu University, respectively. A topical session of this SPIRITS project has been designed in the international workshop on Computational Chemistry Symposium of ICCMSE.
Future Prospects
We will further develop the research towards understanding the unification of matters and forces based on the networks constructed by this SPIRITS project. We aim to obtain the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas and the Bilateral Joint Research Projects.

・Dr. Tsumura is an assistant professor at the Department of Physics, Kyoto University. He was a research fellow at High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) and International Center for Theoretical Physics of UNESCO and IAEA. His main research field is particle theory, and he aims to study the history of the universe and the fundamental law of elementary particles from the Higgs boson and neutrino physics.
