Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Gestalt Psychology: Theoretical and Clinical Perspectives
Tentative date of January 2023.
ワークショップ概要
In psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is currently the dominant paradigm. However, CBT represents only one approach of many therapeutic practice modalities. Non-CBT practices such as Gestalt therapy, existential psychology and traditional (Freudian or post-Freudian) psychoanalysis have their own proponents and remain influential. Moreover, CBT itself is not a single unified approach but encompasses a variety of different forms. A gap between theory and practice has always existed within each respective field but working together can help to bridge this gap to create a more comprehensive understanding of these important theories. We intend to examine the theoretical foundations of CBT, including its origins from the cognitive revolution in the theory of mind, and comparing it to alternative frameworks such as Gestalt psychology. We will examine the relation between therapeutic practice and theoretical accounts of the mind. By bringing together psychologists and philosophers we hope to illuminate these issues through consideration of a wide range of perspectives. Since both philosophical and psychological models of the mind generate interest amongst laypeople as well as professionals, we hope that the results of our discussion will be relevant to participants from outside of our disciplines. Through fostering discussion between philosophers and psychologists we hope to help improve the general level of understanding of the complexities and controversies within contemporary scientific theories of the mind. Workshop Participants include psychologists working directly in counselling practice, as well as philosophers who are internationally recognised experts on the philosophical foundations of psychology.
