Research of Huge Energy Savings Device that Promotes the Separation of Power Generation Activities and the Power Transmission Business.

Project Gist

Resolve Japanese energy problems through the marine inverse dam

Keywords

Resolve Japanese energy problems through the marine inverse dam

Background, Purpose, and Project Achievements

Huge storage capacity is needed to utilize renewable energy because of the instability in generating power through renewable sources. In this project, a gigantic storage battery (marine inverse dam) set in the sea that utilizes the potential energy of sea water was studied. In consequence, it was found that the marine inverse dam could be used as a storage battery more functionally and cost effectively than existing batteries if the structural shape, construction technique and operation manner of the dam are appropriately designed.

Future Prospects

The final structure of the marine inverse dam is anticipated to be very large. Therefore, we are thinking of the following steps: First, we will build a prototype and apply it to small smart grids. Thereafter, we will apply to larger grids. Finally, we would like to contribute to resolve Japanese energy problems.
